1. What We Collect
To run YoTip, we collect the minimum information needed:
- Creator profile: your display name, bio, profile photo, and social links you choose to share.
- Mobile money number: the phone number where you receive your tips. This is never shown publicly.
- Transaction data: tip amounts, timestamps, and the mobile money reference codes for each payment. Supporter names and messages are optional and chosen by the supporter.
- Usage data: basic analytics like page views and tip counts to help you understand your audience.
2. What We Don’t Collect
We do not store or have access to:
- Your mobile money PIN or password.
- Your full banking details or card numbers.
- Your contacts, messages, or any data from other apps on your phone.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use your information strictly to operate and improve YoTip:
- Processing tips: routing payments from supporters to your mobile money account.
- Displaying your page: showing your profile, tip amounts, and supporter messages (if any) on your public YoTip page.
- Analytics: providing you with tip history and earnings summaries on your dashboard.
- Communication: sending you important service updates, payment confirmations, or changes to our terms.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We may share information only in these limited circumstances:
- Payment partners: your mobile money number and amount are shared with the mobile money provider (MTN, Airtel, or Safaricom) to process the transaction. These providers have their own privacy policies.
- Legal compliance: if required by law, court order, or to prevent fraud or illegal activity.
- Service providers: trusted third parties that help us host data, send emails, or monitor performance — all bound by confidentiality agreements.
5. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on secure servers with encryption at rest and in transit. We use industry-standard practices to protect your information. However, no online service is 100% secure — please keep your login credentials private and use a strong, unique password.
6. Data Retention
We retain your data as long as your YoTip account is active. If you delete your account, your profile and public page are removed within 30 days. Transaction records are retained for up to 7 years as required by financial regulations in Uganda and Kenya.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access, update, or correct your personal information at any time through your dashboard.
- Request a copy of all data we hold about you.
- Delete your account and all associated personal data.
- Opt out of non-essential communications.

8. Cookies & Tracking
YoTip uses minimal cookies for essential functionality — keeping you logged in and protecting against fraud. We may use anonymous analytics (like page view counts) to improve the service. We do not use tracking cookies for advertising or cross-site profiling.
9. Children’s Privacy
YoTip is not intended for use by anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If we discover a user is under 16, their account will be closed and their data deleted.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as YoTip evolves. Material changes will be communicated via email and through a notice on the YoTip website at least 14 days before they take effect.
